I read this book sometime ago and loved it. The characters and the story are very well developed and the pace keeps the reader interested. The author is highly skilled at writing dialogue in a way that lets each character's voice come alive for the reader, while weaving a very well told story with plenty of mystery along with a very good dose of humor. I've read the second book of the series, Dark Night of the Soul, as well and very much enjoyed it too. I am eagerly awaiting book three. A very good read!Product details

I would have rated this book three stars on the plot and writing, but the errors foced me to drop it to two stars.
The author tried to fit in several genres of the supernatural, a whole town of characters, murders, and personal relationships--including romances. There were so many different subplot lines and flashbacks that I felt like I needed a score card to keep track of what was going on.
There were no many typographical erros and ommitted words that it was distracting and, sometimes, made it difficult to figure out what the sentence meant. For example, the character Cooper was listed as "Cooper" three times on a page and once as "Copper". Another sentence stated that he "adjusted his and his holster" as the character got out of the car. The book really needs more proofing.
I am an avid reader and love supernatural and mystery books and live in Texas so I had high hopes for this series. I had to force myself to finish this book and will not be buying the sequel.
This book is truly a MUST READ, I am not a writer and the other reviews are wonderful. I have never written a review but after reading this book I just felt the need to let others know what a rollercoaster ride it is. The author keeps you involved with the characters and the town. Here is this small town with everyday people who have such an amazing secret life. I was unable to put this book down, you never know what will happen next, to be totally honest I can't wait for the next installment!! I love the way the characters are so relatable, there was one that I didn't really like in the beginning but as things progressed I came to understand them more. The character development is rich,smooth and very believable. I can't wait to visit Blackwater, Texas in the next book!! (There has got to be a second installment!!!!)
